Market of the Month: United  Kingdom

The United Kingdom hospital equipment market is valued at US$7,658 million in 2021, equal to US$114 per person.

Growth has been volatile in recent years, although much of the negative performance has been exchange rate related, due for example to the effects of the 2016 referendum decision to leave the European Union. Underlying demand, however, remains strong, with funding in many areas still below avergae for a developed market.

2020 saw a strong performance as investment in hospitals and new equipment intensifed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The market has fallen back a little in 2021, but spending remains at historically high levels.

Imports account for around 90% of the market. The UK has a large domestic sector, but this concentrates on export markets.
